Meet the team
Zachary Carnevale, DDS
Zachary “Zac” Carnevale DDS, MS is a skilled pediatric dentist practicing at Solomon Kids Dentistry. He sees patients at both the Knightsville and Carnes Crossroads locations.
Dr. Zac was born in rural New Jersey and grew up on a farm taking care of a variety of animals and spent most of his youth riding dirt bikes. He spent his childhood there before moving to Wilmington, NC while still in high school. After graduation, he attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he enjoyed surfing and living on the beach. Throughout his college years Dr. Zac worked both as a tutor and as a surf instructor for children. It was during these jobs that he realized his true passion and unique ability to work with children. He graduated magna cum laude and with university honors with a degree in mathematics. After graduation, he continued his education at UNCW and earned an M.S. degree in applied mathematics. You may want to ask him about his research, it has a likeness to his name!
Dr. Zac attended dental school at The Adams School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, he worked to develop the National Dental Student Ambassadors and served as the co-president of the group for 3 years. While in dental school, he enjoyed volunteering at dental clinics in rural areas of North Carolina and participating in the kid-focused dental events like Give Kids a Smile Day. His desire to become a pediatric dentist was realized fully while rotating through the Special Needs clinic during dental school.
After dental school, he completed a one-year General Practice Residency at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. He received top training and treated patients throughout the hospital at the on-site dental clinic as well as in the operating room. He then went on to specialize in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Zac completed his pediatric specialty training at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in the department of Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, and Dentofacial Orthopedics. It was here that he received a vast amount of training in multiple dental specialties. He treated pediatric patients, orthodontic patients, cleft lip and palate patients, and special needs. He continues to be well versed in current dental literature and enjoys reading about and keeping up with the new and exciting innovations to pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Zac’s patience and compassion is what people speak of most when they talk about his ability to treat children. He focuses on creating a connection with the kids and wants to make going to the dentist fun! He has a love for sneakers and likes to wear some funky shoes to the office, so be sure to take a look when you’re there. He has been known to break out a magic trick or two, and can sometimes even be found playing the video games in the waiting room of his office. To offer the best care possible and ensure patient comfort, Dr. Zac maintains his certificates in conscious sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia.
He has lived in Charleston for over 2 years and is enjoying the lowcountry lifestyle. He is known to be a great cook, and when he’s not practicing dentistry he is either in his cooking in his kitchen, surfing in the ocean, or jamming out at a concert. Dr. Zac engages with his community by volunteering locally at the North Charleston Dental Outreach. During his time there, he has helped to start a pediatric division within the volunteer clinic and now treats any child with dental needs.
Dr. Zac’s goal in pediatric dentistry is to help children feel confident in themselves so that they are encouraged to maintain great overall health. He is truly passionate about his career and looks forward to meeting each and every family that walks through the door.
Samantha Gaito
Samantha Mullis Gaito, better known as “Dr. G”, is a general dentist practicing at Solomon Kids Dentistry. She sees patients at both the Knightsville and Carnes Crossroads locations.
Dr. G was born and raised in Greenville, SC. She attended Clemson University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2019 with her Bachelors of Science in Health Science. She was a cheerleader during her time as a student and loved cheering on the Tigers from the sidelines!
After graduating, she moved to Charleston to attend the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was a member of the dental honors society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and was the recipient of the Pierre Fauchard Student Certificate of Merit Award. While in dental school, she enjoyed volunteering at dental clinics in rural areas of South Carolina and participating in the kid-focused dental events like Give Kids a Smile Day. Her desire to work with children came from working in a work study in the Orthodontics clinic, along with rotations in the Pediatrics and Special Needs clinics.
In June 2023, she married her husband, Smith, and the two live in the Summerville area. When she is not working you can usually find Dr. G out on the water fishing and boating, trying new restaurants in Charleston, going to concerts, or travelling to new places.
Dr. G is committed to making her patients feel their best in and out of the chair (you might even get to hear your favorite song sung!). She fosters a positive and upbeat attitude while instilling the confidence for patients to take control of improving their oral health. She aims to make every dental visit a great one and looks forward to visiting you and your family soon.
