Emergency Dentist | Regenerating Tooth Enamel
Emergency dentist | If you find yourself suffering from stained teeth, fractured or sensitive teeth, you may be experiencing enamel erosion. While there are many ways to help improve your tooth enamel, it will depend on the level of decay as to what your options are.
Enamel is the outer layer of your tooth and the hardest substance in your body. Enamel protects the inner layers of your teeth when you are chewing and biting or drinking. Just like any other bone in your body, enamel can be chipped, cracked, or experience erosion.
Strengthening Tooth Enamel
Once tooth enamel has eroded, there’s actually no way to regenerate tooth enamel, but there are some choices you can make to help strengthen it. Good oral hygiene can help prevent acid erosion caused by bacteria. Taking vitamin D and calcium supplements will promote healthy teeth and bones. Using fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash will help strengthen your enamel.
Preventing Tooth Erosion
Healthy tooth enamel can be promoted by steering clear of too many soft drinks and fruit juices and drinks. These things are high in citric and phosphoric acids which will cause erosion. Diets high in sugars and starches also create acids in your mouth and can cause enamel erosion. Dry mouth and acid reflux are other issues as well.
Depending on the amount of tooth enamel you’ve lost, your dentist may be able to assist in helping restore and regenerate tooth enamel. In cases that aren’t very severe, dental bonding can help cover sensitive teeth that may be prone to erosion and also improve the color of your teeth. If you are experiencing more severe erosion, your dentist may recommend porcelain veneers or crowns to help restore the function of your teeth and give you back a beautiful smile.
